NEW ORLEANS — Former New Orleans City Council member Jared Brossett is scheduled to appear in court Monday in connection with what authorities say is his fourth driving while intoxicated (DWI) arrest.

According to court records, Brossett was arrested in May and booked on charges of driving while intoxicated, unlawfully refusing to submit to a chemical test and violating minimum speed requirements. Court records indicate his bond was set at $6,000 following the arrest.
The latest charge marks the fourth known DWI-related arrest involving the former elected official. Records show Brossett previously faced a DWI arrest in 2006 and was arrested twice while serving on the New Orleans City Council in 2020 and 2021.
In the 2020 incident, police said Brossett was involved in a crash while operating a city-owned vehicle. The case generated widespread public scrutiny and prompted calls for accountability during his tenure on the council.
Brossett again made headlines in October 2021 when New Orleans police arrested him on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after officers reportedly found him asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle with the engine running. The arrest occurred while he was campaigning for an at-large seat on the City Council. He later suspended campaign activities and ultimately lost the election.
A Democrat, Brossett served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014 before representing District D on the New Orleans City Council from 2014 until 2022.
Details surrounding the most recent arrest remain limited, but Monday's court appearance is expected to provide additional information about how prosecutors intend to proceed with the case.
